Continuous Professional
Development (CPD) Framework aims at quality learning in the
classroom through continuous engagement of teachers in their
professional development. The emphasis is on an ongoing training
and support process, rather then an one-off activity. For
teacher development to be effective, it must be need based,
school based and practice based. It should not only provide
the teacher with necessary skills development, but, should
also provide classroom based follow-up, mentoring, pedagogical
support and supervision. Teacher development is effective
if it is continuous with a proper support network.
Teacher
self motivation to develop
a professional & crucial for the process to be sustainable.
Hence CPD Framework promotes and covers both the supply and
demand side of teacher development. It also involves all the
key stakeholders in the process of decision making.
For detailed overview of the vision for teacher
development for Punjab, please see:
CPD Framework was developed
as policy document for the Government of Punjab and formally
approved by Chief Minister Punjab in July 2006. It was a comprehensive
document since it looked at teacher training within an integrated
framework of continuous professional development framework,
across the pre-service and in-service continuum. The diagram
below, fully explains all the necessary elements of the framework
as elucidated in the policy document.
